"Communal grieving offers something that we cannot get when we grieve by ourselves. Through acknowledgement, validation and witnessing, communal grieving allows us to experience a level of healing that is deeply and profoundly freeing.” Sonbonfu Some

Grief is Medicine! When it is liquid, able to move, it cleanses us, becoming good compost to metabolize the sorrow, anger, self-consciousness, envy, numbness and many other kinds of grief that can block our capacity to authentically give and receive the gifts of life. To the Dagara people of Burkina Faso regular grief rituals are an integral part of keeping the village healthy and whole. In the troubled world that we live in today it is important for us to grieve. Grieving well can make us stronger, more joyful and more resilient. Grieving can help us begin to metabolize generations of ancestral grief but we can’t do it alone.

Together, we will create a safe and powerful container to release and metabolize many forms of grief while supporting each other, so as to cultivate fresh ground for us to realize our gifts, and bring them into this world. ASHE!

Madeleina and Coby have attended and helped organize many rituals with Sonbonfu Some and Malidoma Some for more than 10 years. The grief ritual will be held, holding the lineage of these two teachers. Through out the day we will be engaging in various excercises to help us begin to access our grief and connect with one another. The grief ritual will take up most of the afternoon. Afterwards there will be an integration space and potluck for us to share our experiences. Details of what to bring and how to prepare will be sent when you register.

Grief rituals are a gift to our communities and take a lot of organizing, deposits and coordination to make them work. Please RSVP and buy your tickets early to support this work. Thank you!
